Swachh Bharat Diwas is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and to reaffirm our collective commitment towards cleanliness, sanitation, and a healthier environment. The day highlights the importance of maintaining clean surroundings, adopting responsible waste management practices, and encouraging active participation of citizens in keeping their communities clean. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, various cleanliness and awareness activities are organized to promote clean habits, source segregation of waste, door-to-door waste collection, reduction of single-use plastic, proper waste disposal, and sustainable sanitation practices. Swachh Bharat Diwas provides an opportunity to recognize the contribution of sanitation workers, Swachhta Didis, volunteers, citizens, educational institutions, and community organizations who work together to create cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable cities. The celebration aims to strengthen the message of “Cleanliness is Everyone’s Responsibility” and inspire citizens to make cleanliness a regular part of their daily lives.
